Wedding invitations are an integral part of a weddings theme and the mood you want to set for your ceremony. There are thousands of ready-made wedding invitations to choose from; simply select a design, send the details, and the printer can have it ready within weeks. With such a wide selection, it may be difficult to pick which one is best. Here are the things to consider:

* Formal or casual. You want a wedding invitation to complement the overall theme and mood of the wedding. Is your wedding formal or casual? A formal wedding may need classic script fonts, formal wording, and the traditional double envelope. They would appreciate the souvenir; plus, it is a way of thanking them for their participation.

* Youd never forget to put the date and the venue, but many couples forget to put a map to the church and/.or reception area. A map would be very helpful, and would save many guests any inconvenience especially if the wedding is located in a place they are unfamiliar with.

* If you are trying to control the number of guests, insert a small card that says, We have reserved seats for you. This is a subtle and polite way of minimizing the headcount.

* If you are moving to a new home after the wedding, you can include another small insert announcing your new address.

If there are wedding do's then there are obviously wedding don'ts. Everyone wants their nuptials remembered for good things and nothing more, which is why we bring you this list of things to avoid in preparing for your wedding...

1. A venue with poor ventilation in the sweltering heat. The last thing you want is for your guests to melt at your nuptials or party. Help them stay cool by choosing a reception that has proper air conditioning. If there isn't at least provide everyone with fans.

2. Keep the guests waiting. Their time is precious and some of them are also tired. It is thoughtless to be sitting leisurely in a comfortable waiting room for the reception venue to become full just so that you can make a grand entrance.

3. A master of ceremonies who thinks he's a stand up comedian and takes pot shots at your guests. Definitely memorable but only as a really bad show.

4. A dragged out wedding program. Your guests will be bored and tired and just waiting for a chance to exit your party if you don't ensure that the program is well thought out.

5. Strange, exotic food in the menu. You may want to impress them by having a foreign dish on the list but not everyone will appreciate eating frogs legs, even if it does taste like chicken. Keep the food simple, elegant yet tasty.

6. Games that are embarrassing, gross or ill thought out. Keep the banana eating contest and similar parlor games for less formal events. Better to keep any games you'll have simple and fun for everyone, not a select few.

The Maid of Honor and the bridesmaids usually give the wedding shower. Often, with the help of the brides mother. There may be more than one shower, sometimes co-workers will give a shower at the workplace or in a restaurant close to the job. The grooms family if they live far away, my want to give a shower of their own. One word of caution, you shouldnt invite anyone to a shower who isnt invited to the wedding. Thats like saying Ill take your gift but dont want you at my wedding. Ask the bride who she wants at her shower.

If this is to be a surprise shower, get help from the brides mother. She will be able to tell you if Great Aunt Millie who lives several states away, will be insulted if she doesnt get an invitation even though everyone knows she cant come. Here are a few tips to help make it easier for you to manage. Guest list - get names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of all who will be invited.

Budget Decide how much you can spend, this will determine where the shower will be held, what kind of food if any will be served, and even how you will decorate for the shower.Invitations can be printed, store bought, done on your computer, by word of mouth telephone or email. The invitations should include the date, time, place, theme, the names of the bride and groom, and at least two RSVP contacts.

Follow up verbal invitations with a printed or handwritten note with all the information. Be sure to mention if it is ladies only or a couples party. Also include whether or not children are welcome.

Menu the time of day and your budget will influence the menu. If you will be having the shower close to lunch or dinnertime, then you will have to serve more than cake chips and drinks. If most of the guests are close friends and relatives of the bride and groom. You can ask people if they would bring a dish. In some areas, this is the way all but the most formal occasions are handled. Buffets are less work and more informal than a sit- down dinner.

Use pretty paper and plastic products when possible. Dont forget to buy or make a cake.Location, this should be easy to find. Include a map for locals. Out of town guests can get maps from the internet.

Choose a date The shower should be held between 6and 8 weeks before the wedding, The brides mother will be the best source for a suitable date.

Theme Ask the brides mother, what she thinks they need the most. Some typical wedding shower themes are kitchen, bedroom linens, bath, and lingerie showers.

There are a few other things you need to take care of. Make sure you have enough tables and chairs, a place of honor for the bride to sit while she opens her presents. Remember to pick up plates napkins cutlery, and cups. Have someone bring a coffeepot, assign one of the bridesmaids to pick up drinks, chips etc. Make sure someone can transport the gifts. Get film for your camera and take lots of pictures.
